Changing definition of a face lift

·

Till very recently we have known face lift means surgery. It used to be a full stretch of the facial skin all round and fix it with stitches. Now the definition of a face lift is changing and so are the treatments, from surgical to a non surgical approach.

Facial aging signs are wrinkles and laxity, loss of volume in the face. As we age, we get more hollow and sunken. By surgical face lift we cannot put lost volume back in, only we can stretch the skin. Therefore when we add volume back into the face with fillers, the results can be surprising.

The goal of a face lift is to achieve a more youthful appearance, but it should also be subtle and smooth looking. As youthful beauty, is smoother and flawless. It’s not tight, and it certainly isn’t flat, hollow or deflated.

Using a combination of neurotoxins (such as Botox) combined with fillers (including Restylane,  Juvederm,  Radiesse,  Artefill and others) is what we call the non -surgical Face Lift. This procedure offers wonderful possibilities to rejuvenate the face. It is an in-office procedure with no surgery and virtually no down time. Neurotoxins relax the muscles that cause wrinkles, while fillers restore depleted volume. Different techniques are used depending on the specific concerns of each patient.

One of the most frequently requested areas patients want smoothed out is the vertical lines between the eyebrows, often called the “11” or frown lines,  because they’re usually two lines running vertically between the eyebrows appearing as the number 11. A couple of tiny injections of Botox diffused into the muscle relaxes it and not only smoothes out the frown lines but actually lifts up the brow and smoother skin as well.

At the clinic our surgeon’s treatments are very popular with neurotoxins.  If It is placed elsewhere on the forehead,  will result in a nice lifting of the lateral brow. The combination of lifting the brow and smoothing those frown lines is something that’s very popular among men and women. Another benefit of neurotoxins is that they shrink down the sebaceous glands to further smooth the skin’s surface.

Technique is critical when it comes to injecting neurotoxins. Too much in the wrong place can result in a droopy brow as opposed to a raised brow. It’s also important to note the differences in men versus women: Men’s eyebrows go straight across, but women’s eyes look better when the eye brows are arched. In case of uneven eye brows and eye lids, symmetry is achieved with the help of Botox injections.

In summary face lift with nonsurgical treatments is the way forward. These can range from Botox to fillers, skin peels, IPL, skin tightening accent, to volume enhancing state- of- the- art treatments.
